THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

So I am going to start a new blog segment about my favorite things. Each post will be about a different topic, like books, furniture, make-up, jewelry, or heck, even places! So here is my first installment in what will be a long term blog feature.

Books:
Being a blogger, artist, photographer, creative type, I am in constant need of inspiration. In a time of internet and magazines you would assume one would have an overload of inspiration, which is true, but sometimes I just need to sit down with a good book, filled with great visuals. These are a few of my favorite things.  All of these books revolve heavily around design, art, and architecture. If I ever am looking to revamp a room or feel like creating a piece of art, these books never fail to give me a creative burst.

LIVING ROOM UPDATE

The walls have been painted white. I have decluttered a bunch, and really streamlined the look. There is a lot of black and whites with other neutrals. Really the only pops of color are the Eames' pillow and the Bauhaus coffee table book. If you see those two large black and white prints, they are just engineer prints from staples. You send in an image and they print it really big! As for the wall hanging on the back wall, that is simply muslin that I painted with acrylic paint. 

You can get a small glimpse into the kitchen, I hope to paint that room white as well. I truly have grown to love this apartment. We have lived here for 2 years exactly. We will defiantly be here for one more year, and I plan to sign another lease.  There are still some small changes I want to make to the house, especially getting new light fixtures. Can't wait to keep you all posted!

Alright so I am very fond of Mid-Century design.

I don't stop talking about it. I spend most of my free time looking at design blogs and watching documentaries about designers and such.

For the past week I have been really concerned about what to set my TV on in my new apartment.

Right now our TV is on a fire place mantel.

Our new home doesn't have a mantel. So I was not sure what our option was going to be.

I work at a local thrift store and we received two credenzas that were not quite up to my liking.

I thought HEY maybe I could do something with them, paint them, stain them, add drawer pulls...

Our bed is right in front of a window that looks out towards a moderately busy street.

My boyfriend tried to wake me up asking "what is that outside"

Our neighbors tend to be a little trashy, a little obnoxious, so I just figured they were up to one of their antics.

So once I rubbed my eyes awake and put my glasses on I saw it.

The back was facing our window and I could tell that it was the credenza of my dreams.

I hollered out the window and claimed my treasure!

The neighbors claimed this lovely piece of Danish wood was too large for their house and wanted to get rid of it!

I googled mid-century credenza and found a twin.

Looks like the maker is Rosengren Hansen.

I haven't found too much info on his work...but it is indeed teak and Danish!

I don't know if you can tell from this picture but this piece is about 10 feet long!

Whoa boy.

Eames

I am pretty obsessed with Eames. It is a little frustrating, I talk to everyone about my interest in mid-century design and often times I get blank stares! I love this video.

Alright, first post! Lets start of with a quick introduction. My name is Jamie. I a 20 something living in a great town called Grand Rapids. I am almost always carrying my camera, and looking for inspiration.

As of late I have had a one track mind.

All I can think about is MOVING.

A little less than a year ago I moved into my current abode. Its a monster of a house, not in my dream neighbor hood. We( my boyfriend Nick and I, you will hear lots about him!) signed the lease of our NEW house back in Feb. We still have about a month and a half to go! It has seemed like a life time. But now we are in the home stretch. I am pretty sure he is sick of hearing my talk about the new house. Now you guys can hear all my ideas and plans!

It is smaller, in a nicer, more convenient neighborhood, and less expensive!!!

This is the living room! I absolutely adore the floors. They have such character.

A dishwasher! I am going to be spoiled!

This bathroom is a little small, but the fixtures and bathtub are all new.

I already have plans for this space!

Next week we have an appointment to view the apartment again. I need to get a closer look at the space. We are down grading in size, but upgrading in...well...everything else!
